Emirates offers Ugandan travelers daily flights to London through Dubai.

Emirates, a global connector of people and places, continues to offer Ugandan travelers daily flights to London with one stop through Dubai at affordable fares.

Recently, Emirates upgraded its services to Uganda with the deployment of a larger Boeing 777-200LR on the daily Entebbe to Dubai route.

Emirates operates five daily flights to London Heathrow from Dubai using its A380s airplanes. Ugandans are able travel to London with just one stop in Dubai.

Emirates offers 119 flights per week to the United Kingdom. Travelers can take advantage of the vast number of flights to the different cities in the UK. There are 5 daily flights to London Heathrow, 3 daily flights to Gatwick airport, 3 daily flights to Manchester, 3 daily flights to Birmingham, 1 daily flight to Newcastle and 2 daily flights to Glasgow.

Every day, Emirates departs from Dubai at 0915hrs and arrives at Entebbe at 1330hrs. It departs from Entebbe at 1530hrs and arrives in Dubai at 2135hrs.

Emirates operates the world’s largest fleets of the iconic A380 and popular Boeing 777s. These advanced and modern jets are efficient to operate, and enable Emirates to install the latest onboard features such as: mobile phone services and free Wi-Fi for travelers to stay connected on the go, live TV including the latest sports tournaments, and an unmatched breadth of entertainment content via its ice inflight entertainment system.

Emirates’ dining experience features great food inspired by the regions and countries it serves and a superb wine offering that includes some of the most exclusive vintages. On the ground, the airline has invested in its own global network of 38 Emirates Lounges, and chauffeur drive services, offering frequent flyers and premium customers a seamless Emirates experience.

EK 729 departs Dubai International Airport every day at 0920hrs and arrives at the Entebbe International Airport at 1330hrs. The return flight, EK730, leaves Entebbe at 1610hrs and lands in Dubai at 2230hrs.

Airtel Rwanda Staff take part in the Breast Cancer Awareness Walk.

The month of October is the worldwide Breast Cancer Awareness Month. This is aimed at increasing knowledge about Breast Cancer. This year, Airtel Rwanda staff joined fellow Rwandans to take part in the Breast Cancer Awareness Walk which was organized by Breast Cancer Initiative East Africa Inc. among other companies. The walk which started from King Faisal Hospital and ended at the Christ Church of Rwanda in Gacuriro, was attended by many people from all walks of life.

There is still a big challenge in Rwanda because people have little or no knowledge on the breast cancer disease. The disease affects both men and women although it is more common among the women.

Among those who attended the walk was Miss Rwanda, Doriane Kundwa, who said; Cancer does not discriminate. We all need to own up to the disease so that we can be able to fight it.

Dr. Francois Uwindi an Oncologist and in Charge of the Cancer Unit at Rwanda Biometric Center, said that there has been an improvement in the fight against all forms of Cancer in Rwanda. Previously, the country didn’t have as many specialists. Now there is a specialist at every government hospital in the country.

The Director of the Breast Cancer Initiative East Africa, Mrs. Philippa Kibugu-Decuir said that there was a need to increase the sensitization of the public especially emphasizing that Breast Cancer can affect both men and women. Philippa encouraged people to be vigilant about their health and go to health centers for checkup and treatment. Adding that early detection would increase one’s chances of survival

Speaking to Airtel Rwanda Head of CSR & Corporate Communications, Denise Umunyana, she said; “Breast Cancer is the most common type of cancer in women worldwide. The biggest problem we are facing with fighting the disease is; lack of awareness. Many women get to know about having this cancer when it is in its late stages. Airtel Rwanda staff took part in the walk to spread awareness about the disease among fellow women and men.”

The walk was concluded with a community health forum involving doctors and breast cancer survivors and advocates holding a discussion on awareness/education, community forum and Q&A session at Christ Church of Rwanda (CCR) Gacuriro which was the finishing point of the walk.  There was also a free clinical breast examination for the attendees by the trained Rwanda Association of Midwives.

Airtel Uganda wins award at the NSSF 2015 AGM.

The National Social Security Fund, during their 3rd Annual Members Meeting, awarded Airtel Uganda 1st Runner Up in the GOLD Category Award involving over 1800 Employers.

The Members Meeting that attracted over 500 people, including NSSF contributors, employers, workers unions’ representatives, government representatives and members of the public was held to update its members and other stakeholders on the state, performance, goals and outlook of the Fund. The fund also used the forum to receive feedback and respond to concerns from members through an interactive session.

The awards were based on NSSF regulations compliance and Audit pass, wholesome contribution to the fund as well as Timely remittance of contributions to NSSF.

On receiving the award, Airtel Uganda Human Resources Director, Mrs. Flavia Ntambi Lwanga said, “We are delighted that the NSSF has recognized us for this award. We take pride in upholding the company’s obligations towards our employees, and adhering to our statutory obligations as an ethical business.”

Other award categories included 2 Silver Awards, 2 Bronze Awards, and several Regional awards.

The winners were selected basing on a “360 degrees compliance test” – a test which refers to a situation where an employer remits all due contributions in a timely manner, registers all employees and has no contributions arrears.

Airtel Uganda announces restructuring in Sales and Distribution.

Airtel Uganda today announced a restructuring that will see the business streamline its operations in Sales & Distribution.

“The Airtel brand in Uganda continues to grow, the restructuring is needed to ensure that our go to market model is appropriate for business conditions and that our operations remain competitive,” he further said.

The new way of working is an opportunity for Airtel to get even closer to our customer, and with it, we shall be sourcing for more talent to join the existing Airtel Sales and Distribution team.

Airtel Rwanda partners with Facebook to bring free web access to Rwandans.

Airtel Rwanda and Facebook have partnered to offer free web access to Rwandans while using the Airtel network. Through Free Basics by Facebook, Rwandans will be able to access various websites through the Airtel network at no cost. Customers will also be able to access a set of free services in categories of health, education, communication, sports, jobs, and local information.

Commenting on the new development, Airtel Rwanda Finance Director & Acting Managing Director, Mr. Tano Oware said, “We are delighted to kick off this partnership with Facebook and have it go live at a time where we as a telecom are looking to enable our customers to access the internet affordably.”

He added, “With our recent affordable internet-enabled phone offering together with free web access, our customers are in for a feast of information, education as well as the best experience on the Airtel network.”

“Following our success with Free Basics in Zambia, Ghana, Malawi, and Kenya, we are excited to continue our partnership and further extend reach with Airtel in Rwanda. We believe that access to information is a basic right that empowers communities and entrepreneurs around the world,” said Markku Makelainen, Director, Global Operator Partnerships, and Facebook.

During the launch, Hon. Jean Philbert Nsengimana, the Minister for Youth & ICT  – Rwanda said; “The introduction of Freebasics.com and Facebook Kinyarwanda, will enable Rwandans have free web access to a variety of popular websites on the internet. With categories ranging from education, jobs to local information, we are confident that Rwandans will have a service that they can be proud to use and benefit from.”

Free Basics by Facebook will be available as a mobile browser version for feature phone users on the web address www.freebasics.com. Smartphone users can also download the Free Basics app on Android devices through the Google Play store.

Among the free websites to be accessed on Free Basics while using the Airtel network include:  Facebook, BBC Africa, Inyarwanda.com, Wikipedia, BabyCenter & MAMA, Dictionary.com, SuperSport, Bing search engine, and several others.

Primary School Teacher wins 9th motorcycle in the Airtel Tunga Promotion.

A teacher from Kanyinya Primary School, located in Shyorongi, is the 9th winner of the motorcycle in the ongoing Airtel Tunga Promotion.

A resident of Gisozi and mother of four, Urayeneza Anonciata was the lucky winner in this week’s draw. With the promotion in its final stages, there are now three motorcycles left.

Talking to the thrilled teacher who couldn’t hide her excitement, she said; “I have never won anything from Airtel and I am still surprised. I am so grateful and I will use this motorcycle to do business as a Moto.”

Handing over the motorcycle at the Airtel Service Center in Kimironko, Airtel Rwanda’s Brand Ambassador and Miss Rwanda, Doriane Kundwa said; “Today, we have continued to fulfill our promise of giving out twelve motorcycles in twelve weeks. Our customers keep enjoying the good services we offer them as we keep rewarding them for their loyalty. We believe this motorcycle will be of great value to Anonciata and he will use it to impact other people’s lives.”

“So far, nine motorcycles have been given out with four remaining. Anyone can be a winner as long as they are Airtel customers and participate in the promotion.” she added.

To participate and stand a chance to win a motorcycle and daily airtime, customers can send the text message “IT’S NOW” to 155 and will automatically be entered into the game and can start playing by answering questions. The message costs only Rwf100 and the promotion is open to all Airtel Rwanda customers.

Customers earn 50 points for every correct answer and additionally receive 10 points for attempting even if they get the answer wrong.

Every day, 5 winners with the most points on the day are rewarded with Airtel airtime worth Rwf2, 000 and the customer with the highest number of points at the end of the week wins one of the brand new motorcycles.

Emirates SkyCargo Named “Overall Carrier of the Year” for Third Year in a Row by Payload Asia.

Emirates SkyCargo, the freight division of Emirates, continues to lead the air cargo industry by winning the coveted “Overall Carrier of the Year” award at the Payload Asia Awards 2015. This is the third consecutive year Emirates SkyCargo has received this prestigious award.

The honour was accepted by Ravishankar Mirle, Emirates Vice President of Far East and Australasia, Cargo, at a gala dinner at the Crowne Plaza Changi Airport, in Singapore. The ceremony took place in conjunction with the 2015 Payload Asia Conference, an annual trade event for the air cargo industry.

“We are grateful to have been named ‘Overall Carrier of the Year’ yet again and would like to thank the magazine’s readers, including many of our customers, for voting for us,” said Nabil Sultan, Emirates Divisional Senior Vice President, Cargo. “This achievement recognizes the hard work of our teams stationed across our global network and the value they bring to our customers each day.”

Emirates SkyCargo was initially shortlisted for the award by an esteemed panel of judges. Readers of Payload Asia were then invited to vote for their favourite carrier. Criteria for the award included the carrier’s network coverage and development strategy, operational performance, customer service and product innovations, as well as market leadership, responsiveness and adaptability.

Bell Lager puts up limited Ne-Yo tickets for sale.

As the date to the much anticipated Bell Pop’n Jam concert with Ne-Yo draws close, Bell Lager has today announced that it will be giving more Ugandans the opportunity to attend the show by putting up tickets for sale.

This development comes after sections of the public expressed their inability to access the promotion as they do not consume alcoholic beverages.

Addressing the press at the Kampala Sheraton Hotel, Mr. Nyimpini Mabunda, the Managing Director at Uganda Breweries Limited explained that Uganda Breweries has listened to the public because they believe in an all-inclusive approach.

“The limited tickets are being put up for sale to cater to those who feel that they have been left out by the under the crown promotion. These tickets do not in any way interfere with the ongoing promotional mechanic, rather they only offer an option to persons who feel they were disenfranchised due to the fact that they do not consume alcoholic beverages,” he said.

Nyimpini also clarified that whilst 5,000 tickets are now available for sale, consumers should continue participating in the Bell Pop’n Jam promotion by sending codes to 8464 as they still stand a chance to win tickets.

Robert Kabushenga, the Vision Group CEO, a partner of the Ne-Yo concert in Kampala further reaffirmed that the need to sell tickets arose as a result of views expressed by XFM and Urban TV audiences as well.

“As partners, we sat down and agreed to put up a few tickets on sale to cater for those who want either VIP treatment, or as already mentioned do not consume alcoholic beverages but would love to be part of this once in a lifetime experience.” he remarked.

As a result Vision Group’s XFM in conjunction with Bell Lager will set up a VIP experience at the show. Tickets will be availed at Vision Group’s head office in Kampala, The House of Walker at Sheraton Kampala, Nakumatt Oasis, and Capital Shoppers. More purchase points will be communicated at a later date.

Airtel Uganda premiers Reality TV Show ‘Together We Can’.

Airtel Uganda, The Smartphone Network, has embarked on a journey to change the lives of all Ugandans with a new ground-breaking reality television series.

Titled ‘Together We Can’, the 52-part TV show will explore a range of issues currently being faced by all Ugandans, including poverty, health, education and selfless service. Each story that will be showcased on the series will end with the ultimate celebration of these Ugandan heroes when Airtel awards them with prizes that enable them to fulfill their dreams of helping others.

Speaking at the press conference to announce the show, Airtel Uganda Managing Director Mr. Tom Gutjahr said “At Airtel, we are passionate about making a positive impact on the communities in which we operate and this is why we are producing a TV show to change the lives of people and communities” adding that this phenomenal series seeks to reward individuals who have made an outstanding contribution to their family or community by granting them one wish that will change their lives and enable them to continue helping others.

This is not the first time that Airtel Uganda is making an effort to contribute to the community in which they operate. Every year, Airtel Uganda, under its ‘Adopt-A-School’ Program “adopts” a school, and goes on to improve all of its facilities including classrooms and libraries. This program ensures access to quality education for underprivileged children from disadvantaged communities, in an effort to contribute to the overall development of the country. At present, this program, across Uganda, has changed the face of education in four schools.
