Emirates offers a 96 hours sale to Ugandans Traveling to Dubai.

Starting 27th April 2015, Emirates will be offering improved fares to customers travelling to Dubai. To take advantage of this offer, the customers should book a minimum of two tickets and a maximum of nine tickets.

During this limited period offer, customers must purchase their tickets between 27th April 2015 and 30th April 2015, and travel between 27th April 2015 and 25th June 2015. Tickets are for valid for return travel only, with a minimum stay of three days and a maximum stay of one month. The starting fare in Economy class will cost $442 including all taxes and the starting fare in Business class will cost $1,274 including all taxes.

Emirates Country Manager for Uganda Jaber Mohamed said: “Emirates’ everyday-value fares to Dubai have proven to be popular with Ugandan travelers. We appreciate the continuing loyalty of our Ugandan travelers and this offer is just one of the ways that we are giving back.”

EK 729 departs Dubai International Airport every day at 0835hrs and arrives at the Entebbe International Airport at 1245hrs. The return flight, EK730, leaves Entebbe at 1535hrs and lands in Dubai at 2155hrs. Customers on board the aircraft can experience Emirates’ famous hospitality and service from its multi-national cabin crew, enjoy more than 1600 channels of on-demand audio and visual entertainment on its ice entertainment system, gourmet cuisine and generous baggage allowances. Economy Class customers get 30 kg, Business Class get 40 kg and First Class customer 50kg.

Uganda’s Jazz maestro, Isaiah Katumwa to mark 20 years in the industry.

The Jazz concert, that will also mark 20 years in the industry for Isaiah Katumwa, is going to be in partnership with the soon-to-be-launched Jazz FM and is the first of the annual concerts to be held every year featuring a jazz legend from across the world.

This will not be the first time that the telecom giant is thrilling music fans in Uganda with an international artist. Just earlier this year on Women’s Day, Airtel Uganda held an All Women’s Concert that featured Nigerian music diva Tiwa Savage singing alongside a lineup of top female Ugandan artists. In 2014, the company also hosted and sponsored the “Ugandan Women of Substance” 2014 Awards ceremony that featured Jamaican artist Nyanda as the main act.

Hugh Ramopolo Masekela is a South African trumpeter, flugelhornist, cornetist, composer, and singer. He was born in Kwa-Guqa Township, Witbank, South Africa on 4th April 1939. He began singing and playing piano as a child. At age 14, after seeing the film Young Man with a Horn (in which Kirk Douglas plays a character modeled after American jazz cornetist Bix Beiderbecke), he took up playing the trumpet. His first trumpet was given to him by Archbishop Trevor Huddleston, the anti-apartheid chaplain at St. Peter’s Secondary School.

As an all-rounder, some of his achievements include a Doctor of Music (honoris causa) from Rhodes University (2015), an Honorary Doctorate in Music (2014) from University of York, an African Music Legend award at the 2007 Ghana Music Awards as well as a Lifetime Achievement Award during the 2005 Channel O Music Video Awards.

Airtel Uganda joins the American Chamber of Commerce to support ‘Agripreneurs’.

Airtel Uganda joined hands with the American Chamber of Commerce (AmCham) of Uganda to sponsor the 2015 Agripreneur Summit Expo that was held on the 22nd and 23rd of April at UMA show grounds in Kampala.

Themed “growing tomorrow’s bottom line”, the two day event that happened as part of the worldwide Earth Day celebrations was designed to showcase the importance of managing all aspects of agribusiness – from seed to supermarket shelf – under a formal business model, which offers plenty of opportunities for entrepreneurs and existing businesses to capture the worldwide appeal for the products grown and produced in Uganda.

Emirates steps into the wild to sponsor ‘The Last Wilderness of the UAE’.

Emirates, a global connector of people, places and passions, has signed up to sponsor ‘The Last Wilderness of the UAE’, a documentary series that will feature the United Arab Emirates’ remarkably rich biodiversity. It will also provide insight into the natural adaptations that have enabled many species to survive in the Arabian Peninsula’s harsh and ever-changing habitats as well as showcase some of the most important conservation accomplishments over recent years. blandford_s-fox-2

The three part documentary will be divided to focus on the ecosystems of the mountains and wadis, the deserts, and the seas of the UAE.

After seeing so many changes to our natural world and the wildlife in this region, I wanted to turn our focus more specifically towards our own home here in the United Arab Emirates. Thanks to the support of Emirates, these films will feature the wildlife and ecology that is found in our mountains and wadis, the plains and deserts, as well as coastal wetlands and offshore islands, exploring the reefs and all the other underwater habitats, too.”


Ali Khan added: “We will document and showcase the true and often surprising biodiversity of a region that most people just think of as being dry without much wildlife at all. We intend to show just how far from the truth that really is. Each film will feature the natural history of many wildlife species, right up through the food chain on land and under the seas; as well as reveal both delicate and resilient cycles of life that keep the natural order of this amazing land in balance, albeit – a delicate balance. Having the series air on board ice is really exciting as it has the potential to reach millions of passengers beyond the TV reach, providing a long term home for the content for years to come.”

‘The Last Wilderness of the UAE’ will feature three 60 minute long films that capture the natural behavior of a wide selection of terrestrial and marine wildlife including invertebrates, mammals, fish, reptiles and birds – studying their behavior and survival mechanisms in the unforgiving surroundings of the UAE. It will also tell the formidable, powerful stories of these species, underscored by new knowledge of their fragile existence and their life-or -death quest for survival in a harsh environment.


One such example is the Arabian Oryx, which has demonstrated some of the most remarkable natural adaptations to its arid surroundings. The Arabian Oryx (locally known as Al Maha in Arabic) is one of only four Oryx species, and the only antelope outside Africa.

The Arabian Oryx can go without ever drinking water, taking the moisture it needs from the plants it consumes as it only needs water equivalent to 2-4% of its body weight. Another adaptation is its white coat that helps protect it from the glare of the sun. Perhaps the most amazing acclimatization of them all is its ability to lower its blood temperature by seven degrees during the hottest periods of the day. This amazing desert survivor was brought back from extinction in the wild due to one of the most successfully recorded rescue attempts, which was facilitated in the UAE.

Filming around the desert ecosystem and its wildlife will soon be commencing at the Dubai Desert Conservation Reserve supported by Al Maha Desert Resort, owned by Emirates.

Additionally, the stories of the wildlife featured in the films will be linked to the local knowledge of Bedouin and coastal inhabitants of the UAE, merging local artisanal and instinctive knowledge with academic research methods and conservation practices.

The series is set to premiere on the Discovery Channel in the fall of 2016 initially in English with Arabic subtitles, airing in the Middle East and North Africa. An Arabic edition is also being produced to be aired after that and the documentary series will eventually be aired in other territories, such as Central and Eastern Europe and Africa. It will also simultaneously air on ice, Emirates award winning in-flight entertainment system.

In addition to the three part 60 minute documentaries, content will also be produced for twelve 5 minute mini-documentary videos for podcasts and across a spectrum of social media channels, among other online platforms. DVD sets will be produced and distributed regionally to retail outlets and DVDs will also be distributed free-of-cost to schools and universities to educate them about the UAE’s diverse ecosystem.

Uganda is set to benefit from a raft of ground breaking business knowledge from internationally acclaimed experts when the monthly Public Relations over Coffee (PROC) meetings commence in May 2015.

Emirates Aviation University honours more than 250 Graduates.

Emirates Aviation University celebrated yesterday its second graduating class this year, honouring more than 250 students. Held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Ahmed Bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman and Chief Executive, Emirates Airline and Group, the graduation ceremony took place at the university’s new campus in Dubai Academic City.

The graduating class consisted of 68 students from the bachelor degree programmes, 184 from higher diplomas programmes, 39 Emirates Group employees and 19 graduates from the pilot training programme. Including this year’s number of students, the university has graduated more than 12,500 students since its inception in 1991.

“The growing aviation industry in the UAE and across the MENA region has created a whole spectrum of jobs that demand continuing education and professional qualifications. The success of our programmes reflects this demand, and also the calibre of our education,” said Dr. Ahmad Al Ali, Vice Chancellor of Emirates Aviation University.

“I would like to congratulate the graduates for this great achievement and wish them all the success in the exciting field of aviation,” he added.

The graduation ceremony was attended by Dr Abdulla Al Karam – Chairman of the Board of Directors and Director General of KHDA, Dr. Naji Al Mahdi – Chief of Qualifications and Awards, KHDA, and a of number government representatives, family and friends.

School Teacher Aims For the Stars after Microsoft ‘Make It Happen Reward’.

Having saved up enough money from his part-time job as a school teacher, 22 year old Justin Ojago decided to reward himself with a smartphone.

His reasons for purchasing the Microsoft Lumia 535 were to basically stay in touch with friends on ‘WhatsApp and Facebook.’ Little did he know that this simple purchase would be an opportunity to bring one of his wildest dreams closer to reality.

“I just wanted a good phone with superior apps, thus my decision to purchase the Lumia 535. So, I casually registered for the sake of it and carried on with my usual chores,” Ojago narrated.

By his own admission, it was not possible that an S.6 ‘vacist’ who was literally leading a ‘hand-to-mouth’ life as teacher had been chosen as the lucky winner.

Thousands turn up for the Airtel Kabaka Run.

Aimed at fighting Fistula, the event was attended by top Kingdom officials such as the Katikkiro of Buganda, Charles Peter Mayiga, Prince David Wasajja and Princess Katrina Ssangalyambogo. Local icons such as musician Bebe Cool, kick boxer Ronald Mugula and the entire SC Villa team led by FUFA President, Moses Magogo also participated in the Run.

Airtel Uganda was the main sponsor of the 2015 Kabaka Run as part of a partnership agreement that was signed with the Buganda Kingdom worth 170 million shillings for the next three years to cater for four of the most important Buganda Kingdom activities; the Kabaka Run, Kabaka’s birthday, the Kabaka’s coronation as well as Eid El Fitri.
