Kampala Restaurant Week comes to an end as Tusker Lite and Pearl Guide Uganda award the best performing restaurants.

Kampala Restaurant Week came to an end after a 10-day exciting experience of food discovery and restaurant hoping for many food lovers in and around Kampala.

Kampala’s largest restaurant showcase was culminated with an awards ceremony at the Kampala Sheraton Hotel. Organised by Pearl Guide Uganda and powered by Uganda Breweries Limited’s premium beer, Tusker Lite, who gave out a complimentary beer for every meal, Kampala Restaurant Week saw over 40 restaurants including those in Jinja and Mbarara participate in this year’s edition.

The funfair that had kicked off on the 5th July and went on till the 15th July, was crowned with an awards ceremony where restaurants were recognized for their exceptional performance in the categories of Outstanding Service Award, Innovation Award (also known as the Dish of the Week Award), Top Casual Dining and Top Signature Dining Restaurants.

The night’s big winners were The Explorer, Kampala Serena Hotel which picked up two awards for the Outstanding Service Award and the Top Signature Dining Restaurant award.

Not to be outdone, Riders Lounge also scooped the award for the Top Casual Dining restaurant. Among other winners were Le Château which won the Innovation Award.

The restaurants were judged by members of the public and judges from the Chaine de Rotisseurs, a body of Chefs worldwide. The body which comprises of over 25,000 members worldwide also has 60 members coming from Uganda.

Speaking during the awards ceremony, Grace Namutebi, UBL’s Brand Manager Premium Beers said; “Today we take home an unforgettable experience from this year’s Kampala Restaurant Week. The restaurants that have been voted as the best in the various categories, we salute you for your meals and services and we hope you continue giving us the best.”

19 year old Fort Portal resident wins car in ongoing Airtel Uganda promo.

Kirabo Nina Mary has this morning received a brand new car from Airtel Uganda through the telecom company’s ‘Mega Masappe’ promotion. A resident of Fort Portal, Kirabo was visibly elated as she received the grand prize from Mrs. Flavia Ntambi Lwanga, Airtel Uganda’s Human Resources Director.

This is the second car given out to an Airtel Uganda customer; last week, Shaban Kyeswa from Bulenga took home the coveted prize.

Other winners in this week’s draw include Leonida Kokutana and Ronald Mutesa who won UGX 1,000,000/- each. Nelson Muhanguzi, Asuman Doso, Nambu Hafiswa, Kizito Shafique took home brand new motorcycles.

Handing over the prizes, Mrs. Flavia Ntambi Lwanga congratulated the winners and thanked them for taking part in the promotion, saying the promotion was introduced for the purpose of rewarding Airtel Uganda subscribers.

Airtel Uganda gives KCCA Shs50m for Charity Concert ahead of City Festival.

Telecommunications solutions provider, Airtel Uganda has today announced a partnership with Kampala Capital City Authority to sponsor the pre-festival charity concert.

The concert scheduled to take place on 6th October 2017 at the Kololo Independence grounds, proceeds from the pre festival party will all be geared towards improving the state of KCCA UPE schools currently providing free primary education for over 80,000 children from low income households.

Speaking at the press conference, Airtel Uganda Managing Director Mr. Anwar Soussa applauded KCCA for the work that they do to ensure that the city remains clean, beautiful and organized.

“Partnering with KCCA is not a new venture for us at Airtel Uganda. Over the years, we have partnered on many different projects such as the beautification project at the Wampewo road roundabout and the KCCA fees payment project using our Airtel Money platform,” he said, adding that Airtel Uganda has also been a KCCA festival partner for the past few years.

Soussa further clarified that Airtel Uganda is very passionate about this partnership because of its impact on education in Uganda.

“Education is one of our key Corporate Social Responsibility pillars. Through our Adopt-A-School program, we have managed to refurbish over 5 schools in Uganda – one of them being St. Ponsiano Primary School located in Makindye, here in Kampala district,” he added.

Mrs. Jennifer Musisi, the KCCA Executive Director praised the telecommunications company for always sponsoring and participating in different projects that benefit the city.

“Allow me to appreciate Airtel Uganda for being approachable and always willing to participate in our different projects. We have done a lot of work together and I encourage you to maintain this relationship as we build our city,” she said.

Tight draws in the Masaza Cup quarter finals as Airtel Uganda reiterates commitment.

Airtel Uganda, the nation’s number one supporter of football has today reiterated its commitment to the ongoing Masaza Cup as it progresses to the Quarter finals stage.

This announcement was made this morning at the Buganda Kingdom offices in Mengo at a press conference attended by Airtel Uganda officials led by Ms. Remmie Kisakye the Head – Brand and Communications alongside Buganda kingdom officials who included the Katikkiro Owek. Charles Peter Mayigga, who represented the Kabaka of Buganda and the Sports Minister Owek. Henry Sekabembe.

Speaking at the press conference, Kisakye thanked the Kabaka of Buganda as well as his officials for continuing to mobilize the kingdom subjects and encouraging them to work together to better their lives and the Kingdom at large. She also noted that Airtel will continue invest in football – a platform that offers opportunities to hundreds of talented players across the country to better themselves and represent the country at an international stage .

“At Airtel Uganda, we remain committed to sponsoring the Masaza Cup – a tournament that boosts talent amongst the young people from Buganda Region while mobilizing them to participate in development programmes and activities that ultimately positively impact their lives and the communities in which they live,” she concluded.

The Masaza Cup is an annual tournament that has been played since 2004 and features nineteen teams from 19 different Buganda Kingdom regions. Over the weekend, the Masaza Cup group stages came to a close with Mawokota, Gomba, Singo, Bugerere, Bulemezi Busiro, Kooki and defending champions Buddu emerging victorious and securing spots into the upcoming first leg of the quarter finals due on 23rd July.

 

dfcu Bank to support renovation of Pece stadium for 2017 edition of East African Secondary School Games

dfcu Bank has today handed over 1,000 bags of cement valued at over UGX 30 million that will go towards the rehabilitation of Pece War Memorial Stadium in preparation for the 2017 edition of the East African Secondary School Games. The handover, which was made to representatives of Gulu District took place at Pece War Memorial Stadium.

Over 1,000 schools are expected to take part in the 16th edition of the East African Secondary School Games and will be hosted by St Joseph College, Layibi and Sacred Heart Girls School. The students are expected to take part in a variety of indoor and outdoor games including football, rugby, netball, basketball, volleyball, handball, hockey, chess, swimming and badminton.

Speaking at the handover ceremony, the dfcu Bank Northern Regional Manager Christopher Kinyera said the contribution to the renovation of the stadium was a display of the Bank’s commitment to the development of the communities in which it operates.

“dfcu Bank holds the growth of our communities in high regard- we believe that we have a responsibility to help our society make socio-economic advancements that in turn, benefit us all,” Kinyera said.

“This contribution is going to help with the renovation of Pece Stadium where these regional games will take place, and we are honored to be part of this because we understand the power of sports in Uganda.     We are aware that the people of Gulu are passionate about sports- partnered with their great hospitality, we are confident that this is the perfect venue for an activity of this magnitude. We are excited to be a part of this,” he concluded. The games are scheduled for August this year.

Airtel gives out first car in ongoing promotion.

In an exciting ceremony befitting of a Friday, Airtel Uganda has rewarded the second batch of winners in its ‘Mega Masappe’ promotion. The winners received their prizes from a team of Airtel Uganda representatives led by Rajesh Agrawal; the Telecom Company’s Networks Director. Tusker Lites on the Nile as Jinja participates in Kampala Restaurant Week

Jinja Sailing Club was the centre of focus as key media personnel and food lovers traveled to Jinja to check out its participation in the ongoing 3rd edition of the Kampala Restaurant Week.

Powered by Tusker Lite and organised by Pearl Guide Uganda, the largest showcase of restaurants in and around Kampala kicked off on the 5th July and will go till 15th July.

This was acknowledged by Jinja Sailing Club’s Executive Chief, Noman Qureshi who said that the restaurant week activity offers customers a chance to try out the best cuisines at affordable prices.

Airtel Uganda and Buganda Kingdom handover Shs110m to the Central Public Health Laboratory in the fight to end Sickle Cells.

Airtel Uganda together with the Buganda Kingdom have handed over Shs.110,000,000/- (One hundred and ten million shillings)  that was collected during the Kabaka Birthday Run 2017   as a contribution towards the fight to end Sickle cells in Uganda .

The handover to the Central Public Health Laboratory under the Ministry of Health was graced by Buganda Kingdom officials led by the Buganda Kingdom Prime Minister Owek. Charles Peter Mayiga and the Buganda Kingdom Minister of Sports Owek. Sekabembe Henry, alongside Airtel Uganda team headed by Chief Commercial Officer Mr. Deepak Bhatia.

According to the Ministry of Health, over 25,000 babies are born each year with sickle cell disease and over 80% die before their 5th birthday contributing to 15% infant mortality, 13.3% of the total population have Sickle cell traits.
